Gangapur City communal tension: Internet services suspended

Jaipur: The administration has suspended mobile interest services in Gangapur City of Sawaimadhopur district after communal tension broke out in the city on Sunday. The administration has also imposed section 144 of CrPC banning gathering of five or more people.

At least five people were injured when people from two communities clashed with each-other on Sunday. The tension was triggered during a rally taken out by Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP). The VHP supporters were shouting slogans in the rally when some people hurled stones on them. It led to clashes between two groups of people. The tension spread throughout the town. Some people damaged the local shops and vehicles.

Heavy police force was deployed in the town and the administration suspended internet services to prevent the spread of rumours on social media. Five people were injured in the stone pelting.

Senior police offices said that the VHP was celebrating its 56th foundation day on Sunday. The supporters took out a vehicle rally. They were shouting slogans. The people from another community also started shouting slogans. It triggered the tension and the two groups clashed.

The police took over 25 people into custody for disrupting communal harmony. Policemen from Bharatpur and Dholpur districts were also rushed to the town for deployment. The town turned into a fortress by evening. The administration is holding meetings with the leaders of both the communities and appealed for peace and harmony.
