Ashok Parnami resigns. Other candidates who are in the race for the top post include Arjun Ram Meghwal.
Jaipur: The embarrassing defeat in the recently conducted by-elections has cost Ashok Parnami the top post in Rajasthan BJP. Putting to rest speculations, BJP high command on Wednesday accepted Parnami’s resignation.
Jodhpur MP and cabinet minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat is tipped to be the top contender for the post of BJP president in Rajasthan. However, an official announcement is yet to be made as he is abroad.
Other candidates who are in the race for the top post include Arjun Ram Meghwal as he is from SC/ST community, but a common consensus could not be reached on his name. SC/ST community in the state had actively participated in the recently organized Bharat Bandh in protest of a Supreme Court order.
Sources said that RSS has also become active following Parnami’s resignation.
Parnami told media persons that he didn’t resign due to the defeat in the by-elections.
“I have tendered my resignation due to some personal reasons,” said Parnami.
After Parnami resigned, the talks of a cabinet reshuffle started doing the rounds. Some cabinet minister may be asked to join the organization, while some new faces may be given cabinet birth. Parnami may also become a cabinet minister.
Sources said that the decision to remove Parnami had been taken earlier this month in a meeting between Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje and BJP national president Amit Shah.
