JAIPUR: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has announced that all electricity users, including those for residential and commercial purposes, will be entitled to free electricity for up to 100 units.

It means for the first 100 units consumed, customers will not receive any billing.

The consumers will also be exempt from additional charges such as fixed charges, fuel surcharge, and any other fees on their electricity bill for up to 200 units.

Gehlot had only proposed to offer 100 units of complimentary electricity exclusively to residential consumers in the budget. However, he has now expanded the scope of this benefit to all categories of consumers. This essentially means that even those with commercial connections can avail of the first 100 units free of charge.

Elaborating on the scheme, Gehlot assured that families whose consumption exceeds 100 units every month would still be given the first 100 units without any cost.

Similarly, consumers who utilize up to 200 units per month will not only enjoy free usage for the first 100 units but will also be relieved from all associated charges and fees up to the 200 units mark.

With this announcement, Gehlot seems to be banking on popular initiatives to win over the public as election year approaches. His focus is evidently on decisions that can provide direct benefits to the people.
