Freak accident at Chomu House Circle in Jaipur: 5 killed as truck falls on car

Jaipur: In a tragic mishap, five members of two families were crushed to death when a truck carrying salt lost balance and fell over their car. The bodies were mutilated and the body parts of the victims were scratched off the road with brooms after the mishap. The irony was that the bodies and the car were completely buried under the truck and the sacks of salt, so police and people didn’t even know about the deaths until they removed the sacks and discovered the bodies.

City residents show solidarity with the families of Jaipur accident victims

The accident killed a couple who had got engaged on February 8. The would-be groom was identified as Rahul alias Keshav Sharma, while his fiance was Roshani. Rahul was a resident of Laxminarayanpuri in Ramganj area, while Roshni lived in Malviya Nagar sector – 2. They were to tie the knot on November 19. Rahul worked as a jewellery designer in Hong Kong. Roshani was a fashion designer.

The couple made a plan to see the city from the hills of Nahargarh in the wee hours and left with Roshni’s sister Jyoti (32), Roshani’s nephew Nitesh (19) and niece Avantika alias Sweeti (18) around 3.30 am on Tuesday.

The mishap occurred at Chomu House Circle around 4 am.

The truck, coming from Sansar Chandra Road lost balance and it turned turtle over the car.

Not only the truck, but the sacks of salt also fell over the car.

A crowd of passers-by gathered on the spot.

They informed the police following which a team was rushed there.

With the help of locals, police removed sacks of salt and was shocked to find the bodies completely mutilated. Eyes of some people involved in the rescue welled up at the sight of the bodies buried under the sacks.

It was not until 5.30 am that all bodies could be pulled out.

The body parts were somehow removed and sent for a postmortem examination.

“Roshani and Rahul had got engaged recently. The two families were busy with preparations for the wedding that was to take place on November 19. Rahul showed up at Roshani’s house early morning. They had planned to visit Nahargarh,” said a police officer.

Police officials said that the truck was overloaded.

It was carrying 47 tones of salt against the permissible limit of 27 tones. It passed through several police station areas.

The truck driver fled from the spot, but was caught in Agra. He was carrying salt to Agra from Navan in Rajasthan.

Avantika ran a school, Lovely Kids School.

Avantika was alive when she was pulled out, but she died while undergoing treatment in SMS Hospital.

The family members announced that the eyes of Roshani Sharma, Jyoti, Avantika and Nitesh would be donated.
