Four persons with 3 kg gold hidden in rectum arrested for smuggling at Jaipur airport

Jaipur: Four persons including a woman were arrested at Jaipur International Airport for smuggling 3 kg gold on Sunday. The gold was hidden in the rectum. The three accused including two men and one woman arrived at Jaipur airport from Bangkok in a Thai Smile flight on Sunday. The fourth man was waiting for them outside the airport.
The gold weighs around 3 kg and is worth Rs 1 crore in the international market, officials said.
According to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials, the three accused are the resident of Punjab and the fourth belongs to Rajasthan.
The security personnel at the security check post in the airport got suspicious when they saw the accused persons walking abnormally. A body scan revealed some metal in their body. A doctor was called to extract the gold.
“The smugglers concealed the gold biscuits in their rectum. The gold was seized and the smugglers were arrested. We are questioning the accused to get further details on the smuggling network they were part of,” said a customs official.
Many cases of gold smuggling attempts at Jaipur International Airport have come to fore over the past few months.
The customs department arrested a man who had hidden six gold biscuits in his rectum and was trying to smuggle them into Jaipur on December 25.
Security agencies are keeping a close eye and are alert due to an increase in gold smuggling from Bangkok and other countries.
The officer said that further investigation is going on.
