JAIPUR: The political tussles in the Rajasthan BJP have begun as the assembly elections draw closer.

Former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje is celebrating her birthday in Salasar town of Churu today. Her birthday falls on March 8; however, she chose to celebrate it four days sooner even as the event coincides with a protest being organized by the party in Jaipur.

The event is believed to be a show of strength by Raje and speculations are rife as to why she chose to celebrate her birthday when her party had officially planned a protest in Jaipur against the Congress government.

The birthday celebration includes a public meeting, Phag festival, and worship, and is expected to be attended by pro-Vasundhara leaders and workers, as well as BJP’s state in-charge Arun Singh and organization general secretary Chandrashekhar.

However, BJP State President Satish Poonia has instructed party MLAs to stay in Jaipur to participate in the protest to be organized outside the chief minister’s residence. It remains to be seen whether the BJP MLAs and leaders will remain in Jaipur for the demonstration or attend Vasundhara Raje’s birthday celebration in Salasar. Last year, despite Poonia’s call, over 40 MLAs showed up to congratulate Raje on her birthday in Keshoraipatan.

The birthday celebration has already begun, with Raje offering prayers at Salasar until 11:00 am. After taking blessings from the saints, she is expected to address a public gathering at 11:30 am, with a crowd of over one lakh workers anticipated to attend.

The celebration will also include a meeting to felicitate Raje at 4:00 pm, during which supporting leaders will give speeches. At 6:00 pm, a Phag Utsav will be organized.

Former BJP State President Ashok Parnami, and former ministers Yunus Khan, and Rajpal Singh Shekhawat have been camping in Salasar for the past 48 hours and making preparations to make the event a success.

Many MLAs from the Vasundhara faction have already arrived in Salasar. In an attempt to prevent further factionalism, the state in charge Arun Singh has arrived in Rajasthan and plans to participate in the protest program of the Yuva Morcha in Jaipur before going to Salasar with the organization’s office bearers.
