Former BJP leader Ghanshyam Tiwari joins Congress

The official announcement was made at the Congress’s Jan Sabha rally in Jaipur at Ramlila Ground where Rahul Gandhi addressed a booth level sammelan of party workers.

Jaipur: Former BJP leader Ghanshyam Tiwari joined the Congress in presence of the party’s national president Rahul Gandhi in Jaipur on Monday.

The official announcement was made at the Congress’s Jan Sabha rally in Jaipur at Ramlila Ground where Rahul Gandhi addressed a booth level sammelan of party workers.

Tiwari told media persons that for the sake of democratic values, he decided to join the Congress. Tiwari may not contest the Lok Sabha polls but will serve as an active member of the Congress during election campaign.

Ghanshaym Tiwari along with some others independent MLAs including former cabinet minister Surendra Goyal, former cabinet minister Janardan Gehlot, Independent candidate Baljeet Yadav, Independent candidate MLA Suresh Tak and Kushveer Singh Joshawar joined the Congress party on Monday.

Ghanshyam Tiwari contested Assembly elections 2018 from Sanganer constituency in the state after floating Bharat Vahini Party (BVP) and faced a major loss. He fought as an independent candidate in 2018 after resigning from the BJP.

He had openly criticized and accused then CM Vasundhara Raje of corruption and made several complaints against her to the party high command in 2017.

The Congress is expected to release its first list of candidates for Lok Sabha polls in the state on Wednesday.

The dates for upcoming Lok Sabha Elections were announced by Election Commission of India. Polling in Rajasthan on 25 seats will be held on April 29 (Phase 4) and May 6 (Phase 5). The results will be announced on May 23.
