“The notice was issued when the parents of a child studying in this school filed a written complaint against fee increase,” said an education department officer.

Many schools have increased fee up to 30% for the 2017-18 academic year.

State education minister Vasudev Devnani recently promised that the government would take action in cases of arbitrary school fee hikes. He asked the parents to come forward and register complaints.

The government introduced the Rajasthan Schools (Regulation of Fee) Act, 2016, but the delay in its implementation has rendered it ineffective for this academic year.

Nearly 31,000 private schools have come under its umbrella. The law makes it mandatory for schools to form a committee consisting of parents. The committee will determine the fee.

A committee will consist of at least 10 members. When the committee of a school holds a meeting to determine fee, the presence of at least 4 of its members will be mandatory. Two of these members have to be parents.
