Family suicide in Jamdoli: Johari Bazaar jeweller among 4 booked

Jaipur: The Kanota police have registered an FIR against a Johari Bazaar-based jeweller and three others for harassing a jeweller and his family that allegedly caused the latter to commit suicide. The victim – a jeweller, his wife and two young sons were found hanging at their house on Saturday.

The four members of the family allegedly committed suicide by hanging themselves at their house in Radhika Vihar area of Jamdoli. The victims were identified as Yashwant Soni (45), his wife Mamta Soni (41), their two sons Ajeet (23) and Bharat (20).

According to preliminary reports, Yashwant runs a shop at Pitaliyon KI Chowk in Johari Bazaar. On Friday evening, some people visited the family and allegedly demanded the gold and money back which Yashwant had borrowed. was under debt. The loan sharks have been harassing him and issuing threats for the past few months. Relatives said that Yashwant had lent money to others. They were not paying him. Those he had borrowed money from were pressurizing him to repay with hefty interest. Yashwant was under depression.

Yashwant had disappeared with his family on September 16. The brother lodged a missing person report. When the police managed to contact him on his cell phone, he promised to return in a couple of days. He returned on Friday. On Saturday, the family was found hanging.  

According to reports, the police found the legs of the two sons tied up, while their mother was blindfolded. The police are investigation if there was any foul play.
