Jaipur: The family members of 18-year-old Komal Prajapat who committed suicide at her hostel room on Maharani College campus a week ago are protesting over the alleged police apathy in investigating the girl’s ‘suspicious death’. They staged a protest at the district collector office in the city demanding action against some senior students alleging that they were harassing her.

The family members said Komal had approached her hostel warden several times in the recent past demanding she be shifted to a different room. Komal, a first year student, was staying at Maharani College’s Annie Besant hostel.
The family members alleged the senior girl were forcing Komal to consume beer against her wish and harassed her. Though the postmortem report has suggested the death due to hanging, the family members said there were some suspicious and unexplained injury marks on Komal’s body. The police were not investigating how Komal sustained them, they alleged.

Komal’s father Gulab Chand Prajapat said, “Komal had asked her warden to swift her to a different room because some senior girls were harassing her. The warden didn’t pay attention”.

Komal’s body was found hanging from the ceiling of her hostel room on Monday morning. The family members registered a case of murder suspecting that she was being tortured. They said when she had visited home the last time three days ago, she talked about being tortured by her hostel mates.

The police questioned the hostel staff including warden DG Sharma. The hostel staff allegedly told the police Komal never complained of harassment by her seniors or hostel mates.
