Family demands justice for man killed in Ramganj violence

Jaipur police taking a meeting of senior community leaders in the wake of Ramganj violence.

Jaipur: Family members of 22-year-old Adil alias Mohammed Reshu, who was killed during violence in Ramganj area of Jaipur on Friday night, have not allowed the police to conduct a postmortem examination of the body. They have put forward a slew of demands including monetary compensation, a government job and an FIR against the police under section 302 of IPC. The body is still being kept in the mortuary of SMS Hospital.

The family members of the deceased man said he went to Ramganj market to purchase paan. Since it was the 40th day of his aunt’s death, nearly 300 people had arrived and Adil had gone to purchase paans for them, they said.

“We had no idea of the tensions in Ramganj. After Adil was shot, someone called us to inform.” The family members added.

Police commissioner Sanjay Aggarwal said that talks are on with the family members of Adil, however, no decision has been taken on withdrawing the curfew.

Aggarwal also added that the curfew could continue in the area of four police stations on Monday.

Sources said family members of Adil and the police have not yet been able to reach a consensus. T

On Friday, a minor incident of a cop beating a youth once with a stick had snowballed into a serious law and order situation in Ramganj. At least 10 policemen were injured in the stone pelting. Internet services were suspended and school swere closed down.
