Falahari Baba rape case: Court verdict in Ram Rahim case encouraged victim to come forward

Jaipur: The 21-year old law intern who has accused Falahari Baba of sexual assault mustered the courage to come forward and register an FIR after Gurmeet Ram Rahim of Dera Sacha Sauda was convicted in a rape case recently.

The Alwar police have registered an FIR in the matter and said that the baba would be interrogated as soon as he is released from the hospital.

The alleged incident took place on August 7.

The girl was pursuing a law course in Jaipur and had got a scholarship in July and  internship with a Supreme Court lawyer alleged at the recommendation of Falahari Baba. Her family members had been followers of the self-styled monk for the past several years.

When the girl got the scholarship as an intern, she visited baba’s ashram in Alwar district to seek his blessings. She alleged that Falahari Baba drugged her and attempted to rape her at the ashram.

The girl hails from Bilaspur. After Ram Rahim was convicted, she told her family members about the incident. They took her to senior police officers in Bilaspur who registered zero number FIR as the incident didn’t took place in their jurisdiction. They then sent the FIR to Alwar police for further investigation.

“We have registered the FIR and further investigation is going on,” said SP, Alwar Rahul Prakash.

The girl alleged that Falahari Baba boasted of his influence. He reportedly told her that he had helped many become IAS and IPS officers, MLAs and even ministers. Falahari Baba reportedly assured her that he would help her become a judge.

“He asked me what I could return the favour,” she alleged.

The baba also boasted of having medicines that could help women conceive a son, the girl said.
