Ex-MLA’s grandson who blackmailed PHED engineers remanded in police custody
Rajpal is the grandson of Radhey Shyam Ganganagar
Jaipur: Sahil Rajpal who was arrested for impersonating as an IPS officer deputed in ACB and then extorting money from PHED officials was on Thursday produced in a court that remanded him in police custody till August 14.
Rajpal is the grandson of former BJP MLA and former cabinet minister Radhey Shyam Ganganagar.
Sahil impersonated IPS officer Shakar Dutt Sharma who is deputed as SP, ACB and called up PHED officials, many of them under investigation for corruption in connection with SPML case.
Sahil was arrested from MLA quarters in Jalupura on Wednesday. The quarters he was staying in and making calls from was allegedly allotted in the name of BJP MLA Mohan Lal Gupta. Shankar Dutt Sharma is the officer who is investigating the case. Sahil would call up PHED officials posting as Sharma and then offer to exonerate them in the case if they paid bribe. Some of the officials even paid him money.
Sahil made calls through ‘Caller ID Spoofing’. By using VoIP (Voice-over-Internet-Protocol) on the Internet, one can alter the information forwarded to the receiver’s caller ID in order to hide the true origin ID. In simpler terms, caller ID spoofing allows you to display a phone number different than the actual number from which the call was placed.
Apart from PHED officials, the representatives of SPML Company also received the similar calls. Sources said that Sahil asked them to give Rs 10 crore in order to clear their names in the investigation. Some officials allegedly offered to pay a total amount of Rs 2 crore, but Sahil didn’t want to negotiate.
When media persons contacted BJP MLA Mohan Lal Gupta, he said that the MLA quarters Sahil was arrested from had been vacated on August 1. Gupta denied having any knowledge of Sahil staying there and making these calls.
“We would interrogate Sahil during the remand period and try to find out which officials he had managed to blackmail,” said a senior ACB officer.
