By election: BJP to nominate Ramswaroop Lamba for Ajmer LS constituency, Jaswant Yadav for Alwar

Names of Ramswaroop Lamba and Jaswant Yadav were finalized at a meeting in Alsisar on Thursday. Raje also met BJP’s national general secretary V Satish and discussed nomination of the candidates.

Jaipur: BJP’s Rajasthan unit has finalized the names of candidates for the parliamentary constituencies of Ajmer and Alwar and assembly constituency of Mandalgarh which will go to polls on January 29 and will send them for a final approval from the party’s parliamentary board on Saturday.

BJP is all set to nominate Ramswaroop Lamba for Lok Sabha seat of Ajmer and Jaswant Yadav for Alwar constituency.

Ramswaroop Lamba is the son of late Sanwar Lal Jat who died of cardiac arrest in August. Jat was the Member of Parliament (MP) from Ajmer constituency. By nominating Lamba, BJP wants to ride the sympathy wave in the wake of the death of the prominent Jat leader.

Jaswant Yadav is the cabinet minister and MLA from Behror constituency of Alwar. He is being fielded against Karan Singh Yadav who has been nominated by Congress for Alwar parliamentary constituency. By fielding Yadav candidates, both parties are playing caste card.

There was some discontent among party leaders over the nomination of Jaswant Yadav, but chief minister Vasundhara Raje made it clear that Yadav would be the party’s candidate for Alwar constituency, sources said. Raje met legislators from Alwar district at her residence and directed them to ensure Yadav’s victory.

The names of Ramswaroop Lamba and Jaswant Yadav were finalized at a meeting in Alsisar on Thursday. Raje met BJP’s national general secretary V Satish and discussed nomination of the candidates following which the names were given the final nod.

The election commission on Thursday announced the schedule of by-elections for parliamentary (Lok Sabha) constituencies of Ajmer and Alwar and assembly constituency of Mandalgarh in Rajasthan. The election will be held in all the three constituencies on January 29. Counting of votes will take place on February 1.

The Alwar Lok Sabha seat fell vacant when Mahant Chandnath, BJP MP from Alwar parliamentary constituency, passed away on September 17 while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Delhi. He was 61-year-old. Earlier BJP MP from Ajmer Sanwar Lal Jat had died of cardiac arrest. BJP MLA from Bhilwara district’s Mandalgarh constituency Kirti Kumari died of swine flu on August 28.
