Jaipur: Regional Transport Offices (RTO) in Rajasthan will link driving licenses with Aadhaar Cards. This will prevent people from applying for licenses at multiple locations in the state. The RTOs and district transport offices (DTOs) will now ask for a copy of Aadhaar Card when people apply for a new license or its renewal. In the second phase, all the licenses will be linked with Aadhaar Card, officials said. The new system will come into effect from July 1.

“It is a big step because it will prevent many types of fraudulent activities when people apply for licenses. The system will prevent people from applying for licenses at multiple places,” said an RTO officer.

The officer added that the details of a driving license holder will be accessible at a single click across the country. In cases of mishaps, it will be extremely easy to pull the details, said the officer.

“Currently there is no system to prevent people from gaming the system and applying for license at multiple places. In some cases, one RTO cancels the license, but the offender applies for one at a place under jurisdiction of a different RTO. This won’t be possible once driving licenses are linked with Aadhaar cards,” said the officer.
