Jaipur: The city’s former mayor Jyoti Khandelwal resigned from her post of general secretary in the Congress on Friday after she was denied a ticket.
She wanted to contest the elections from Kishanpole assembly constituency of Jaipur but was disappointed after the first list of Congress came out. She has however not resigned from the primary membership of the party.
The Congress released its first list of 152 candidates for the upcoming Rajasthan assembly elections late night on Thursday.
According to Jyoti Khandelwal, she has complete loyalty for the party. She has worked hard, but she was feeling betrayed as the party decided not to field her.

Khandelwal said ‘Congress President Rahul Gandhi wanted to give women an opportunity to fight elections but the first list of Congress does not really reflect this. Even now, if the party will give me a chance to fight in the election, I will accept the opportunity. I don’t have any grudges with the party but I am disappointed”.
Jyoti Khandelwal was elected mayor of Jaipur Municipal Corporation in 2009. She defeated Suman Sharma of the Bharatiya Janata Party by 13,500 votes.
A few days ago, Jyoti Khandelwal broke the traffic rules in Delhi and chased former chief minister Ashok Gehlot’s vehicle in an auto rickshaw for trying to meet him.
