Jaipur: Dholpur police have arrested a man within seven days of a reported attack on a divorced woman who was walking to work early in the morning through a secluded alley, Superintendent of Police Vikas Sangwan has said.
The accused, identified as Shahid, son of Salim Qureshi, a resident of Kasai Pada in the old city area under Kotwali police station, was arrested after investigators scanned several dozen CCTV clips and collected human intelligence from the Hardev Nagar locality where the incident took place.
According to the FIR registered at Mahila Thana Dholpur on 15 April 2026, the complainant, a divorced woman who supports herself and her children by working in households, stated that at around 5.30 am on 11 April 2026 she was walking from her home through Gore Paan Wali Gali in Hardev Nagar towards Bhamtipura when a man aged about 30 to 35 grabbed hold of her. The FIR alleges that when she resisted, the accused strangled her, began assaulting her and made obscene advances, but fled after neighbours came out of their homes in response to her cries for help.
The case was registered under sections 74, 75(2), 78(2), 115(2) and 126(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, with Head Constable Azharuddin taking up the investigation.
Superintendent Sangwan said Mahila Thana in-charge Sahiram Yadav was directed to identify and arrest the accused at the earliest. The probe, carried out under the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police Vaibhav Sharma and Additional Superintendent of Police ADF Bari Kamal Kumar Jangid, involved examining footage from several dozen CCTV cameras on routes connected to Gore Paan Wali Gali and gathering information from local sources on suspects active in the area.
During questioning, Shahid told police he had committed the attack while intoxicated, officers said.
