Jaipur: A 21-year-old man with prior cases of attempted murder and arms offences has been arrested for firing at a young girl standing outside her home in Mayuri Nagar in Dholpur, with the district police catching him within 96 hours of the incident.

The accused, identified as Yuvraj alias Raj, son of Rajendra and a resident of Badapura under Kotwali police station limits, was picked up from Moroli Mod on 1 May 2026, SP Dholpur Vikas Sangwan said on Saturday.

According to the FIR registered at Nihalganj police station on 27 April, the complainant said his daughter was alone at home around 3:10 PM that afternoon when Yuvraj came to the house and called her to step out of the gate. When she did not come out, the accused fired a country-made pistol towards the gate. When the girl eventually emerged, he fired a second time and pellets struck her leg, the FIR states. Hearing the gunshots, the complainant’s brother, who was outside the house, ran in and saw the injured girl. The accused threatened to kill her and fled. The girl was taken to hospital and is undergoing treatment, the FIR adds.

Police registered case number 139/2026 under sections 351(2) and 109(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and constituted a team to track the accused.

Police records show Yuvraj has two prior cases against him. In 2023, he was chargesheeted by Nihalganj police under IPC sections covering rioting, voluntarily causing hurt, mischief, attempt to murder and criminal conspiracy, alongside provisions of the Arms Act. In November 2025, Kotwali police chargesheeted him in a separate case under sections 115(2), 126(2) and 3(5) of the BNS.
