Depressed over testing positive for COVID-19, man commits suicide

Jaipur: An elderly man reportedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a running train in Maliviya Nagar Sector 10 on Thursday. The man left a suicide note in which he stated that he was depressed after testing positive for COVID-19. The police found the body early in the morning. Further investigation is going on.
The man was identified as Surendra Kumar Brij, a resident of Malviya Nagar Sector – 10. He lived with his wife and was a retired bank official. His only son stays in Delhi and works there. On October 19, he and his wife tested positive for COVID-19. They were self-quarantined. Their son wanted to visit them, but they refused.
Around 2 am on Wednesday, Surendra’s wife found him missing from the house. She started searching for him and found a suicide note in which he stated that he was depressed after testing positive for coronavirus and was not able to bear this.
“I am leaving home. Nobody should be held responsible,” he stated in the note.
The wife immediately informed a neighbour who went to Jawahar Circle police station. The police started looking for the man. The police was informed about 6.30 am that a man had been run over by a train. A police team has been rushed to the spot. The man was later identified as Surendra Kumar Bij.
