Dengue causes shortage of blood at SMS Hospital in Jaipur

JAIPUR: Patients are facing difficulties in SMS and trauma centers due to a shortage of blood. The reason behind this is a shortage of blood in hospitals due to the increased demand for blood and platelets due to dengue. The rules prohibiting the procurement of blood from private blood banks outside the hospital are causing inconvenience to the patients’ families.
Not only in Jaipur but also in other cities and states, patients and their families are struggling to find blood donors. This is because each patient usually has one or two family members as donors, and when there is a higher demand for blood, they have to wait for several days. Some patients even leave the hospital due to a shortage of blood.
Providing blood for emergency cases in trauma centers also becomes difficult. The scarcity of blood has led to the emergence of a group of fake blood donors who charge up to Rs 1500 for blood donation. Not only around SMS but also near trauma centers, such individuals have surfaced, and the police are keeping an eye on them.
