Jaipur: Two days after a truck driver and a helper were murdered by suspected terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir, the family members of both the victims demonstrated and refused to accept their bodies. The residents and community members in their villages of Bharatpur and Alwar district demanded compensation. After a day-long deadlock between the demonstrators and the administration, the family members agreed to accept the body after the government announced compensation.

The victims were Ilias Khan, the truck driver who hailed from Alwar district and Zahid Khan, the helper who belonged to Bharatpur district. The members of the community which Ilias Khan belonged to warned that they would block the Alwar-Bhiwadi mega highway on Saturday evening if their demands for compensation were not met. The Meo community was demanding a compensation of Rs 15 lakh and government job for next of kin. In Bharatpur too, the family of Zahid Khan was demanding a compensation of Rs 50 lakh and government job. Due to their respective demands, the families of both of them refused to accept the dead bodies on Friday night.

The police and administration have breathed a sigh of relief after the deadlock ended on Saturday evening. The last rites will be performed on Sunday.

The family of Alwar’s truck driver Ilyas Khan will be given a compensation of Rs 6.5 lakh. An additional amount of Rs 3.5 lakh will be contributed by the community.
