Dacoits open fire at police in Karauli; constable critically injured

Jaipur: A gang of dacoits opened firing at a police team in Karuali district late on Sunday. A constable sustained bullet injuries in the chest following which he was rushed to a hospital in Alwar. He has been referred to SMS Hospital for treatment and his condition is stated to be critical. The police have launched a massive hunt for the dacoits who managed to escape under the cover of darkness.
According to preliminary reports, the police got a tip-off about the presence of dacoit Keshav Gujjar in Sone Ke Gurja forest area in Karuali district. A search operation was launched and the place was surrounded by the police. Keshav Gujjar and his gang members opened firing at the cops. The constable who sustained bullet injuries has been identified as Avdesh Sharma. He is currently deputed in Sadar police station of Karauli.
Police officers said that it was dark when the exchange of fires between dacoits and police took place so the dacoits managed to escape. Senior police officers including the district SP rushed to the spot after the constable sustained bullet injuries. Due to his serious condition, he is being referred to a hospital in Jaipur.
Several members of the Keshav Gujjar dacoit gang has been arrested in the recent past. Four people were arrested for giving him shelter and food a few days ago.
“We have launched an intense search operation in the forest area after the firing incident,” said a senior police officer.
