Jaipur: The city police has decided to lift the curfew, clamped following violent clashes in Ramganj, in three police station areas of Jaipur on Thursday. These areas are Manak Chowk, Subhash Chowk and Galta Gate. Curfew will continue in Ramganj area from 9 pm on Thursday to 5 am on Friday. Schools and markets will open in all the violence-affected areas as life has returned to normalcy.

The decision was taken in a meeting of senior police officers including Jaipur police commissioner Sanjay Agarwal and DCP north Satyendra Kumar.

Curfew was relaxed for 13 hours in all these police station areas on Wednesday. As no untoward incident was reported, the police decided to lift the curfew completely in three police station areas.

“Section 144 of CrPC will be in place, banning a gathering of five or more people,” said a police officer.

The ban on internet services will also be lifted from Thursday midnight.

On Friday, a mob touched a power house and five vehicles including an ambulance in a frenzy created by a minor incident of a youth being hit with a stick by a police constable of Ramganj police station.

The mob hurled stones on the police station and damaged more than 20 vehicles. The police fired tear gas and fired in the air to disperse the crowd. Curfew was imposed in the jurisdictional area of four police stations – Ramganj, Manak Chwok, Subhash Chowk and Galta Gate – in the city. Two men were killed, while several others were injured in the clashes.
