Jaipur: The administration has clamped curfew in Sanvrad village after 28 people, most of them policemen, were injured in clashes between police and people on Wednesday while protesting the police encounter of Anandpal Singh.

The police will take into custody anyone who is spotted on roads or public places. The decision has been taken to prevent further violence.

The police are learnt to have arrested several people after the firing on Wednesday. There were reports that unruly mob of protestors snatched away an AK-47 gun and other ammunition from policemen. Two policemen are reportedly missing, while 21 others including SP Ajmer Paras Deshmuk were injured in the clashes.

The decision to impose curfew was taken by senior police and administration officers late on Wednesday night as thousands of people didn’t leave Sanvrad village even after the public meeting and protest rally. These people had come from various parts of Rajasthan, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.

The meeting was held to press for the family members’ demand for a CBI probe into the police encounter.

Anandpal allegedly engaged a police team in a fierce gun battle when the house in Malasar village of Churu district where he had taken shelter was surrounded by police.

Anandpal who had more than three dozen criminals cases including murder registered against him was the most wanted criminal in Rajasthan, carrying a cash reward of Rs 5 lakh on his head.
