Jaipur: The Rajasthan government late on Sunday imposed section 144 of CrPC banning gathering of five or more people to contain COVID-19 spread. Chief minister Ashok Gehlot also decided to impose a ban on religious and social functions till October 31.

The cities where section-144 has come into effect include Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kota, Ajmer, Alwar, Bhilwara, Bikaner, Udaipur, Sikar, Pali and Nagaur.

“The district collectors at these district headquarters have been asked to issue orders to this effect. There will be a ban on gathering of five or more people in these cities,” said a senior government officer.

The ban on religious and social functions will continue till October 31.

“Only wedding with a maximum attendance of 50 people and funeral and cremations with a maximum attendance of 20 people will be allowed. The people have to inform the concerned SDM for the same,” said the officer.

Jaipur and Jodhpur are the worst affected cities. On Saturday, the state reported 1834 cases. Of them, 386 were reported in Jaipur alone, the highest number of COVID-19 cases in a single day here. The total number of cases has gone up to 1,13,124.
