Jaipur: DG ACB BL Soni was taken by surprise when his subordinate officers approached him telling him someone pretending to be him was sending them WhatsApp messages and asking for gift vouchers. The fraudsters used Soni’s photograph in uniform as a display picture (DP). An FIR was registered with SOG against the fraudsters in this regard.
This fraud came to light on Friday when the fraudsters sent messages asking for gift vouchers of an e-commerce website to several officers of the rank of Deputy Superintendent and Additional Superintendent of ACB.
When these officers posted in the ACB headquarters approached the DG and told him about these messages, he was taken by surprise. On his instructions, an FIR was lodged with the Special Operation Group (SOG) immediately by Additional Superintendent of Police Bishnaram Vishnoi. According to the FIR, Bishnaram received this WhatsApp message on June 3.
Pretending to be ACB DG BL Soni, the fraudsters said in the message that he was in a meeting, so wouldn’t be able to respond immediately. The message asked the receiver to send a gift voucher from the e-commerce website.
Such messages were received by Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Nain, Additional Superintendent of Police Pushpendra Singh, Bishnaram and Deputy Superintendent Rajesh and other officers. Incidentally, Bishnaram was in the office of DG Soni at that time. When he told Soni about this, the DG directed him to lodge an FIR. After that Bishnaram lodged the complaint with SOG. The location of the mobile phone of the fraudster was traced in West Bengal. SOG has launched an investigation.
