Jaipur: A petty disputes in a mini bus turned into a serious law and order situation on JLN Marg late on Wednesday as hundreds of inmates of two hostels situated in the area clashed with each-other for two hours. The students of Brahmin hostel and Jat hostel went on a rampage. They used iron rods and sticks to attack each-other. Nearly 12 students were injured in the clash. The police detained over 100 students around midnight.
The clash was triggered following a dispute between inmates of the two hostels in a mini-bus. An inmate of a hostel was beaten up by three students living in the other hostel over mini-bus fare. The student who was thrashed went to his hostel and told other inmates about the incident. Hundreds of hostel inmates gathered on JLN Marg to take revenge.
The inmates of the other hostel also gathered there for a face-to-face confrontation.
They were armed with iron rods and sticks.
“Buildings of both the hostels are adjacent. The students first engaged in a verbal argument from the rooftops of their respective hostel building. They then hurled stones. They came down armed with sticks and iron rods and attacked each-other,” said a police officer.
According to local residents, the police were immediately informed when the clash started, but they did nothing to contain the situation. Two police patrolling vehicles came to the spot, but returned without taking any action. When the law and order situation went out of control, police force was deployed in the area.
More than 100 students were detained.
Further investigation is going on, a police officer said.
