Churu custodial death: Gang rape case registered against policemen

Jaipur: The troubles of Churu police have mounted in the case of a man’s death in police custody. An FIR has been registered against six policemen including SHO of Sardarshahar police station for gangraping the victim’s sister-in-law.

The case was lodged based on the statements given by the woman who is currently undergoing treatment in the trauma centre of SMS Hospital. She alleged that she was called to the police station in the name of investigation and then gangraped and tortured. The case is now being probed by CID-CB.

SP Rajendra Kumar have been put on awaiting posting orders (APO), while circle officer (CO) Bhanwar Lal Meghwal suspended in connection with the custodial death. Eight policemen including SHO of Sardarshahar police station were also suspended, while 26 others sent to reserve lines in the matter.

An FIR accusing one Nemichand Nayak of theft was registered six months ago. The police investigated the case and filed a final report (FR) when no evidence was found against him. Nemichand was missing from his village for the past six months. When he was spotted a few days ago, the local residents thrashed him and then handed him over to the police.

The victim’s sister-in-law alleged that she was brought to the police station cops. They accused her of keeping the gold jewellery which her brother-in-law stole. In the name of investigation, they allegedly beat her up and then gang raped her.

Circle inspector Ranveer Singh is among the six policemen named in the FIR.
