Jaipur: Chitrakoot area in Jaipur will have its own police station now. The home department issued a notification on Monday, giving its approval to setting up eight new police stations in Rajasthan. Chitrakoot police station in Jaipur is one of them.
Chitrakoot area currently falls under the jurisdiction of Vaishali Nagar and Shyam Nagar police station. However, the local residents were demanding a dedicated police station due to the growing population of the area and increasing crime rate.
Many robberies have been reported in the affluent localities over the past few years. Incidents such as chain snatching and vehicle thefts are also on the rise. The local residents were accusing the police of negligence and lack of patrolling.
The home department on Monday issued the notification announcing to set up Chitrakoot police station. A cyber crime police station was also notified. Six other police stations are Sarna police station in Ajmer, Transport Nagar police station in Pali, Saveena police station in Udaipur, Geegla police station in Udaipur and Asop police station in Jodhpur rural Niwai Sadar police station in Tonk.
Chitrakoot residents expressed gratitude for the move.
“Petty crimes were skyrocketing in the area. It is a great step to curb them. It will ensure an increased presence of people on the area’s streets. It will also be easier for us to register complaints. Due to the growing population, the Vaishali Nagar police was overburdened with work. A dedicated police station for Chitrakoot will go a long way in maintaining law and order and curbing crimes in the area,” said Sushant Sharma, a local resident.
