Child rapist awarded capital punishment by Dudu court

Jaipur: Eight years after one Mahendra Kumar alias Dharmendra Kumar was arrested for raping and then murdering a 6-year-old girl in Phagi area of Jaipur rural, a Dudu court awarded him capital punishment for the crime under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act. The court has also slapped a fine of Rs 8.20 lakh.

The court of upper session judge termed the crime heinous. The incident took place on May 21, 2011. The girl’s father registered an FIR with Phagi police station that he and his wife were labourers and left home for work in the morning. When they returned, their daughter was missing. He went to the police station for lodging an FIR. Some neighbours found the body of the girl in a back room in his house. She was strangled to death.

A postmortem examination revealed that the girl had been raped before being murdered. The accused, who was later identified as Mahendra Kumar, a resident of Chaksu, had stolen a goat and some utensils from the house after the crime. This led the police to him. He was arrested and booked. A DNA test confirmed that he had raped the girl. He was also seen with the girl two hours before she went missing.
