Jaipur: The Election Commission has announced the by-election dates for two assembly seats in Rajasthan. The voting will take place in Vallabhnagar and Dhariyawad constituencies on October 30 and the result will be declared on November 2.
As per the election schedule, the nominations will start on October 1. The last date for nominations will be October 8. Nominations can be withdrawn by October 13, according to the election schedule released by the Election Commission.
The Vallabhnagar seat fell vacant after the demise of Congress MLA Gajendra Singh Shaktawat in January this year. Dhariyawad seat fell vacant after the death of BJP MLA Gautamlal Meena in May. The Congress and the BJP are likely to leave no stone unturned to win both the seats.
Both the parties had already started preparations for the byelection. The Congress and BJP have deployed election teams for both seats. The Congress had formed a committee to oversee the election campaigns.
It is mandatory to hold a by-election in six months for the seat after it falls vacant due to the death or resignation of a legislator. The by-election was supposed to be held by June, but the commission made an exception due to the Covid-19 situation. The by-elections had been held in three other seats in April.
