BSNL General Manager arrested for taking bribe in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur

CBI brings Rajesh Bansal to Jaipur for further questioning

Jaipur: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday brought BSNL general manager Rajesh Bansal a day after he was arrested for taking a bribe of Rs 1 lakh. Bansal was demanding bribe from a contractor to approve bills of Rs 60 lakh for the laying of OFC line cable under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Digital India campaign.

Contractor Sukhveer Singh approached the CBI and registered a complaint after Bansal demanded bribe from him. Singh had carried out work of lying OFC cable line to connect Atal Sewa Kendra of all village panchayats in Nagar Pahari area in Bharatpur.

Singh submitted bills of Rs 60 lakh after completing the work. Bansal allegedly demanded Rs 1.20 lakh bribe at the rate of 2 percent of the total bill.

Bansal allegedly agreed to accept Rs 1 lakh after negotiations.

CBI on Thursday laid a trap and arrested Bansal from his official residence. The agency officials also recovered Rs 1 lakh.

A search is being carried out at office and other places belonging to Bansal.

CBI quizzed Bansal till late night and brought him to Jaipur for further interrogation on Friday morning.
