BSF jawan kills senior officer before shooting himself in Sriganganagar

Jaipur: A BSF jawan shot to death his superior officer – a sub inspector before turning the weapon on himself in Sriganganagar sector on Sunday morning. Both died on the spot. According to preliminary reports, the jawan was depressed over the delay in the wedding of his daughter. He had an argument with the sub inspector after he turned up late for duty on Sunday. He took out his gun and fired at the sub inspector. He then shot himself.

The jawan was identified as Shivcharan Das, a resident of Jharkhand. He was posted at Renuka Post of BSF’s Sriganangar Sector. He turned up late for duty on Sunday morning following which post commandant sub inspector RP Singh scolded him. RP Singh was a resident of Uttar Pradesh.

Shivcharan took out his gun and fired indiscriminately at Singh. He then turned the weapon on himself. Both were rushed to an army hospital where they were declared brought dead. Other jawans informed the army headquarters following which senior officials rushed to the spot.

Other jawans were surprised over the incident as RP Singh and Shivcharan had a cordial relationship.

The army has launched an equiry into the incident. The family members of both the deceased men have been informed and their bodies were sent for a post-mortem examination.
