Jaipur: In a major relief to cancer patients and their family members, the State Cancer institute in Jaipur has opened a blood back. The patients and their family members will not have to run from pillar to post to arrange for blood with the launch of the blood bank.
The State Cancer Institute has received the blood bank license. The bank will provide blood, blood component, blood stem cells and plasma.
The blood bank at the Pratap Nagar-situated State Cancer Institute became operational on Sunday.
An official at the institute said both patients and doctors will benefit from the blood bank, particularly the doctors who performed bone marrow transplants.
The doctors and patients had to rely on RUHS or SMS Hospital for blood for major surgeries. It was not only stressful to arrange for blood, but also very time-consuming.
Rotary Club Jaipur Citizens donated Rs 60 lakh for the tools and equipment for the blood bank.
“It is a major relief for cancer patients as they will now be able to get blood very quickly in emergency situations. They won’t have to rely on blood banks in SMS Hospital and RUHS,” said the officer.
The State Cancer Institute offers advanced technological amenities and treatments to cancer patients. The sections of the institute include Radiotherapy, medical oncology, surgical oncology, nuclear medicine, pathology and radiodiagnosis, added officials.
