BJP: Leaders of opposition in Rajasthan assembly to be appointed today
Kataria, Rathore are frontrunners. Arun Jaitley and senior leader Avinash Rai Khanna had been appointed observers to decide on the name of the leader of opposition.
Jaipur: The BJP will announce the leader of opposition in Rajasthan assembly on Sunday. A meeting of the BJP legislators will be held at BJP headquarters in Jaipur to reach a consensus on the right candidate following which the party will announce the name. The meeting will be presided over by union finance minister Arun Jaitley.
Arun Jaitley and senior leader Avinash Rai Khanna had been appointed observers to decide on the name of the leader of opposition. Jaitley will reach Jaipur on Sunday morning. Several other senior leaders including Prakash Javdekar, Avinash Rai and Sudhanshu Trivedi will also attend the meeting.
The BJP won 73 assembly seats under the leadership of Vasundhara Raje in the recently held assembly elections. All the legislators from the party will be given a chance to tell their preferences about who the leader of opposition in Rajasthan should be during the meeting on Sunday.
Raje had been appointed the national vice-president of the party recently. Speculations are doing the round that she might be fielded in the upcoming assembly elections, so she may not be appointed the leader of opposition. Gulab Chand Kataria is a frontrunner. Kataria had been the leader of opposition during the previous Congress government.
Another candidate is Rajendra Singh Rathore who has won assembly elections seven times. Rathore was parliamentary affairs minister during the BJP government, so he has a good understanding
