BJP, Congress to engage in interesting fight in Tonk and Jhalrapatan: Raje Vs Manvendra and Yunus Khan Vs Sachin Pilot

The filing of nominations for Rajasthan assembly elections 2018 ended on Monday. More than 2000 candidates filed their nominations to contest the Rajasthan polls. Half of them are independent candidates with a 10% ratio of women candidates.

Jaipur: The filing of nominations for Rajasthan assembly elections 2018 ended on Monday. More than 2000 candidates filed their nominations to contest the Rajasthan polls. Half of them are independent candidates with a 10% ratio of women candidates.

An interesting fight will be witnessed in Tonk and Jhalrapatan constituencies this time. The Congress has fielded former BJP MLA from Barmer Manvendra Singh against Chief Minister of Rajasthan Vasundhara Raje from Jhalrapatan constituency.

The BJP has fielded senior BJP cabinet minister from Nagaur district Yunus Khan against PCC chief Sachin Pilot in Tonk.

Tonk Battle

Tonk assembly has a larger ratio of minority voters including Schedule castes, Muslims and Gujjars. The BJP has won the Tonk seat four times. It will be an interesting fight this time to see senior leaders Yunus Khan and Sachin Pilot pitted against each-other for Tonk seat in the election.

Sitting MLA from Deedwana constituency of Nagaur district, Yunus Khan is the only Muslim Candidate fielded by the BJP party in the Rajasthan polls of 2018.

After Congress fielded Sachin Pilot from the Tonk seat, BJP replaced Ajeet Singh Mehta, who was mentioned in the first list released on November 11.

From the year 1972 to 2013, the Congress fielded Muslim Candidates in Tonk. In the history of last 46 years, the party has fielded Hindu candidate PCC chief Sachin pilot from Tonk to contest in the Rajasthan assembly elections of 2018.

From the year 1980 to 2019. The BJP party fielded Hindu candidate from Tonk. In the history of last 38 years, the party has fielded Muslim Candidate Yunus Khan from Tonk to contest in the Rajasthan Assembly elections 2018.

Jhalrapatan Battle

Jhalrapatan is the home turf of Raje and Manvendra Singh is the son of BJP veteran Jaswant Singh. Manvendra belongs to erstwhile royal family Jasol in Barmer.

Former BJP MLA Manvendra Singh, recently joined the Congress party. The Congress leaders believe that Manvendra joining the party will win Rajput votes for the party in the assembly polls.

Relations between Raje and Manvendra Singh’s family soured after 2014, when Manvendra’s father and former BJP leader Jaswant Singh was denied a ticket for the Lok Sabha polls.
