Biggest handicraft fair of Rajasthan kicks off in Jodhpur

Several artisans and craftsmen from more than 18 states of the country are participating in the event and will display their work and craftsmanship through live demonstrations. Their work is being showcased at more than 700 stalls in 16 domes at the event.

Jaipur: One of the biggest handicraft fairs of Rajasthan – ‘Pashchimi Rajasthan Udyog Hastshilp Utsav’ – began in Jodhpur on Friday. This 10-day-long fair is being organized at Rawan Ka Chabutara ground of the city will conclude on January 13.

Several artisans and craftsmen from more than 18 states of the country are participating in the event and will display their work and craftsmanship through live demonstrations. Their work is being showcased at more than 700 stalls in 16 domes at the event.

Rajasthan’s industrial minister Prasadilal Meena inaugurated the fair on Friday. Other ministers including B D Kalla, Ashok Chandna, Sukhram Bishnoi, Mamta Bhupesh and Bhanwar Singh Bhati were present on the occasion. They interacted with the audience and traders at the event.

The aim of this handicraft fair is to display the traditional art and craft of the different states under one roof. Also, the fair will provide a huge platform for the traders to grow their business and to interact with other traders, officials said.

Convener Sunil Parihar said that several conferences and seminars will be held on various topics including entrepreneurship, trade, business, technology, and agriculture to motivate youths for launching their startups in this field.

Moreover, some premier academic institutions such as IIT, National Institute of Fashion Technology, Ayurveda University, Agriculture University and Footwear design and development institute are also participating in the 10-day-long fair.
