Jaipur: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday arrested an executive engineer of the Rajasthan Public Works Department and two contractors at the Bhilwara Collectorate after they were allegedly caught exchanging Rs 4,04,000 in bribe money.
Those arrested have been identified as Shahjad Mohammed, currently posted as Executive Engineer (PWD) at Shahpura, and contractors Modu Ram Dhakad and Banwarilal. The cash was recovered from Shahjad Mohammed’s possession at the time of the trap, the ACB said.
According to Director General of Police (ACB) Govind Gupta, the bureau had received source information about widespread corruption in the public works department. After surveillance, suspect public servants and private individuals were allegedly found to be involved in corrupt practices.
The ACB alleged that Shahjad Mohammed had been collecting money from PWD contractors against works executed by them — partly for himself and partly on behalf of Superintending Engineer Khemchand Meena. Modu Ram Dhakad, Banwarilal and other contractors were among those allegedly making the payments.
The trap was carried out by a team led by Parasmal, Deputy Superintendent of Police, ACB Bhilwara First, under the supervision of Narayan Togas, Deputy Inspector General of Police, ACB Ajmer Range.
The ACB said searches were under way at the homes and other premises of the accused. Questioning is being conducted under the supervision of Additional Director General of Police (ACB) Smita Srivastava and Inspector General of Police S. Parimala. A case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act and further investigation is in progress.
