Betting racket busted in Bajaj Nagar; 2 arrested

Jaipur: The city police arrested two bookies betting online on cricket and other sports matches in the Bajaj Nagar area late on Monday. The officials said that the bookies had links with betting rackets in Dubai. A cash amount of Rs 4.32 lakh, three laptops, four mobile phones, and some other items were seized from their possession. The police are interrogating the accused men to learn more about their betting network.
Those arrested were identified as Ankit Jain (33), a resident of Ramdwara Colony in Bajaj Nagar, and Anil Yadav (36) resident of Bal Vihar in Jagatpura. They were running the online betting business and accepting odds from people. Both were operating out of Ankit Jain’s house in Bajaj Nagar.
The police raided the house after getting a tip-off about the betting racket. Both were caught red-handed betting online on cricket matches and other sports games. They were taken into custody. The police also seized Rs 4.32 lakh, three laptops, and four mobile phones among other things. There were accounting slips and calculators also.
Police preliminary investigation has revealed that the two accused men were using SIM obtained on the basis of bogus ID cards and international numbers. Both were in contact with bookies of Dubai, Mumbai, Rajkot, Delhi, Kolkata. A preliminary investigation has revealed the names of bookies in other Indian cities which were in contact with those arrested in Jaipur. The police have also come across their links with international bookies.
