Behror vice-chairman Rakesh Sharam dies at Gurugram hospital

Jaipur: Thirty-two-year-old Rakesh Sharma – vice chairman of Behror Nagar Palika (municipality) in Alwar died at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram on Wednesday, two days after two men opened firing on him at a marriage function. Sharma had been struggling for life at the hospital for the past two days and was kept on a ventilator as he had sustained bullet injuries on his head. He was having difficulty in breathing, according to the police.

Tension prevailed in Behror after people came to know about his death. Markets in Purana Bus Stand and many other areas were remained close. Doctors at Medanta Hospital where Rakesh was undergoing treatment declared him around 11am.

The police are yet to arrest the culprits. Some suspects have been rounded up. They are being quizzed, police officials said. People alleged that there had been an attempt on his life in the past too. The police are trying to find out who had animosity with Rakesh. The police are examining video footages from the wedding function in order to identify the shooters.

The wedding function where the shootout occurred was taking place at Shakti Resort Hotel in Behror on Monday night. Rakesh was sitting in a chair when two men approached him. They also pulled chairs and set in front of him. They then started abusing him and opened firing. Rakesh fell to the ground. He sustained gunshot wound on his head, according to the police. The shooters escaped from the spot.

The cops have launched an investigation after lodging an FIR for homicide against unidentified men. Police force has been deployed in Behror to maintain law and order.
