Barmer: Police constable dies while chasing smugglers; 2 injured

Jaipur: A police constable died while two other policemen were seriously injured when their vehicle overturned while chasing smugglers in Barmer district on Monday.

The incident occurred near Pachpadra village in Balotra city.

Revenue Minister Harish Chaudhary and SP Rashi Dogra Dudi along with others reached Nahta Hospital in Balotra and inquired about the welfare of injured jawans.

The deceased constable has been identified as Vishvendra Singh. The other two policemen who got seriously injured are SHO of Dudhawa police station Khangar Singh and constable Hukum Singh. They are undergoing treatment at the hospital.

According to the police, the control room got a tip-off about some smugglers in the region trying to get out of the city. Police sealed all the checkpoints and launched a search operation against the accused. The smugglers broke the Pachpadra crossing.

Police officers including Vishvendra, Khangar, and Hukum Singh were chasing the accused’s vehicle.

Suddenly, their vehicle overturned on a circle due to over speed. Vishvendra Singh died on the spot while the other two got seriously injured. The accused managed to flee from the spot, added police.

Other police officials rushed to the spot after getting the information. They took the body of Vishvendra Singh to the hospital’s mortuary and admitted the other two officers to the hospital.

The body was handed over to family members after the post mortem examination. Police are searching for the accused. Further investigation is on, said an officer.
