Barmer: 3 policemen suspended after video of youth’s torture goes viral

Jaipur: Three policemen including a head constable were suspended for alleged negligence in rescuing a 25-year-old youth who was badly tortured on suspicion of stealing a mobile phone in Barmer district of Rajasthan. The video of the youth had gone viral. The police have arrested one of the accused, Hinglajdan, while a search has been launched for another suspect Bharat Singh. There were reports that the victim’s private parts were attacked by an iron rod, however the police ruled it out after receiving the medical report from the doctors.
Those who were suspended include head constable Hakamsingh, constable Harajiram and constable Harlal. The victim was a resident of Tirsingadi area.
Nearly five men tied up the victim and publically beat him up. They suspected that he was involved in stealing a cell phone. The incident happened on January 29. The victim didn’t come forward because he was threatened.
It is alleged that one of the accused, Moti Singh, approached the police to lodge a complaint about mobile theft six days after the incident. The victim was threatened in front of policemen also, but no action was taken by the cops.
The accused made a video of the torture and shared it on WhatsApp. It went viral following which the police swung into action.
In the FIR lodged by the victim’s brother, it was alleged that the victim’s private parts were attacked by an iron rod; however, police said that it wasn’t found true in preliminary investigation.
