A free surgery and prosthetic limb camp was organized at JIET Medical College and Hospital (JMCH), Jodhpur.

Jodhpur: A team of expert Austrian doctors performed life-changing foot and ankle surgeries on 16 children during a free medical and prosthetic limb camp at JIET Medical College and Hospital (JMCH) in Jodhpur. The initiative, organised in collaboration with the International Society for Human Welfare and Rehabilitation (ISHWAR), New Delhi, and KbH (Austria), aimed to help children suffering from congenital deformities of the hands and feet regain mobility and lead normal lives.

The camp brought together internationally renowned orthopedic specialists, including Prof. Dr. Ernst Orthner, Head of the Foot & Ankle Center (Austria); Dr. Dirk Frank Thuemmler, Head Doctor, Foot & Ankle Surgery; and Veronika Gattermayr, Co-founder and Head of Administration at the Foot Clinic Upper Austria. Their expertise and precision offered hope to children who had struggled with lifelong mobility challenges. The team also announced that the next camp will be held in April next year, continuing the mission to expand access to advanced pediatric care.

JMCH Medical Superintendent Dr. Ranjana Mathur shared that the visiting experts not only performed surgeries but also trained JMCH doctors in state-of-the-art surgical techniques, international treatment standards, and the latest innovations in foot and ankle reconstruction. “Around 50 children were screened during the camp, and 16 were selected for surgery. Some were also fitted with prosthetic limbs depending on their medical needs,” Dr. Mathur said.

JMCH Principal and Controller Dr. Deepak Verma highlighted the broader significance of such collaborations. “These partnerships strengthen our commitment to providing quality healthcare and building bridges between Indian and international medical expertise,” he noted. “By working together with global specialists, our doctors gain exposure to world-class practices that directly enhance patient outcomes.”

The event underscored JMCH’s growing reputation as a center of excellence for medical innovation and compassionate care. Through initiatives like these, the hospital continues to reaffirm its mission — not only to heal, but to transform lives through knowledge, skill, and global cooperation.
