Army colonel, major killed in road accident in Bikaner

Jaipur: In a tragic mishap, an army colonel and a major were killed when the SUV they were travelling in overturned in Bikaner district of Rajasthan on Saturday. The mishap occurred as the SUV driver – an army jawan – attempted to avoid collision with a cow. Two army jawans were injured in the accident.

Colonel Manish Chouhan and major Neeraj Sharma were in the army unit that had come to visit Bikaner from Shahjanhapur of Uttar Pradesh. The unit was returning in two SUVs when the mishap occurred near Jodhasar village in Seruna area of Bikaner.

According to preliminary reports, a cow suddenly came in front of one of the SUVs in which Colonel Manish and Major Neeraj were travelling. In an attempt to avoid collision with the animal, the SUV lost balance and hit a stone lying on the roadside. It then overturned.

The jawans travelling in the other SUV rushed to their rescue. All were taken to a hospital where doctors declared Colonel Manish and Major Neeraj dead on arrival.

Colonel Manish was a resident of Riwa in Madhya Pradesh, while Major Neeraj belonged to Una in Himachal Pradesh.  Two army jawans who were injured were identified as Manjindra Singh and Manjeet Singh. Both are undergoing treatment at PBM Hospital in Bikaner.
