Rajasthan police is keeping a tab on people who are spreading rumours about the encounter on social media including Facebook and WhatsApp. Many audios and videos have gone viral on these channels, suggesting that the encounter was fake. In one of the audios, a man posing as a police officer speaks with another police officer about how Anandpal was killed in a fake encounter.

Even before the encounter, several youths were arrested for running fake pages of Anandpal Singh.

In April, Nagaur police on Monday arrested a 22-year-old St Xavier’s School alumni for operating a Facebook page in the name of absconding criminal Anandpal Singh. Anandpal Singh is the most wanted criminal in Rajasthan. The youth arrested by the police not only operated the page, but also implied that it was being run by ‘real’ Anandpal Singh.

The youth, identified as Kuldeep Singh Solanki is a resident of Nagaur’s Ladanu. On his Facebook page, Kuldeep claims to be a former student of St Xavier’s School in Jhansi. Kuldeep, son of an army jawan, did BCom from Pacific University, according to his Facebook page.

Sources said that the state police’s cyber crime branch is keeping a tab on social media channels and will take action against youths who spread rumours.

Police officials say that these rumours can give rise to law and situation in the state.

A tense situation is already prevailing in Sanwrad village in Nagaur district. People threw stones on police  on Sunday, a day after the encounter. An inspector-rank police officer was injured in the stone pelting. The family members have refused to take the body of Anandpal from the mortuary for performing last rites demanding a CBI probe into the encounter.
