Anandpal encounter: IPS Dinesh MN does it again, gangster traced under his supervision
Jaipur: Special operations group (SOG) IG Dinesh MN had been behind bars for more than seven years in connection with his alleged role in the police encounter of Shohrabuddin. He is in the news again for another encounter, that in Rajasthan’s Churu district where notorious criminal Anandpal Singh was gunned down by an SOG team late on Saturday.
Soon after the encounter, DGP Manoj Bhatta was quoted as saying that the entire operation was carried out under the supervision of Dinesh MN. The officer was however in Jaipur when some policemen were risking their lives in the line of duty while engaging Anandpal in a fierce gun battle in Malasar village of Churu district.
Dinesh MN is a 1985-batch IPS officer. During his tenure as SP, Karauli, he gained fame by fearlessly taking on dreaded dacoits and criminals of the area. By the time, he was deputed in Udaipur, a network of organized gangs had spread its tentacle in the region. The criminals used to threaten and extort money from businessmen, particularly prominent marble traders. Dinesh MN is credited with restoring law and order in Udaipur by destroying these gangs in their infancy.
He was then arrested in Soharabuddin police encounter case and remained behind bars for seven years. Protests erupted in several districts of the state in support of the IPS officer.
Dinesh MN was released on bail and after a while posted in the state police’s anti-corruption bureau (ACB).
The officer created ripples in the state bureaucracy when an ACB team under his supervision arrested senior IAS officer and Principal Secretary (Mines) Ashok Singhvi in a case of corruption in mining department.
After Anandpal fled from custody, Dinesh MN was transferred to SOG. It was believed that he was transferred to catch the notorious criminal, but there were rumors that he was removed from ACB under pressure from the IAS lobby in Rajasthan.
The operation to catch Anandpal was hitting a blank wall until two months ago when the police came to know that the notorious criminal and his two brothers were hiding in Haryana and Churu. An SOG team had been camping in Haryana for two months. The patience and intelligence gathering finally yielded results when his two brothers were held in Sirsa around 6 pm on Saturday. From the two brothers who also carried a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh each allegedly revealed Anandpal’s location to the cops. A team then killed Anandpal in an encounter in Malasar village of Churu district around 11.25 pm on Saturday.
