Jaipur: Nearly 24 days after protesters allegedly snatched away the gun of a policeman after they went on a rampage against Anandpal Singh encounter in Sanvrad village of Nagaur district, the police recovered the weapon and arrested a man. The man, identified as Jaipal Singh Shekhawat, is a resident of Dantaramgarh in Sikar district.

Jaipal Singh dug up a pit in the agriculture farm of his uncle near Ranoli in Sikar and hid the gun in it. The police produced Jaipal Singh in a court that sent him to four-day police custody.

The fact that a gun was snatched away from a policeman had come as a major embarrassment to the police force and a frantic search had been launched. Police officials said that after interrogating several people, the name of Jaipal Singh cropped up. He was rounded up and interrogated. He confessed to the crime and led the police to the spot where he had hidden the weapon.

One man was killed and nearly 30 others were injured in police firing, lathicharge, stone pelting and subsequent stampede during a protest rally against the police encounter of Anandpal Singh.

Those injured included Nagaur SP Paras Deshmukh and 20 other policemen. One sub inspector was admitted in trauma ward of SMS Hospital in Jaipur in serious condition.
