Amit Nair honor killing: Shooter arrested, found working as a laborer at a factory

Jaipur: The sharp shooter, hired to kill Keralite Amit Nair in an honor killing case by his in-laws, was arrested on Friday. He was found working at a factory as he ran out of cash. The police have already arrested Nair’s parents-in-law at whose behest he was killed and one other shooter hired by them. The main shooter, Ramdeva Ram who had opened fire at Nair was at large, but he was also held on Friday. DCP, west Ashok Kumar Gupta said that the police got a tip-off about his location in Jodhpur district. “It was later determined that Ramdeva Ram was working as a labourer at a factory in Jodhpur’s Pipad City. A team was immediately rushed there and he was arrested. He has been brought to Jaipur,” Gupta said. The accused is a resident of Bhenrupura village near Losal in Sikar district. During preliminary interrogation, he allegedly told the police that he took shelter in Sikar, Fatehpur and other places and when he ran out of money, he started working at a stone factory in Pipad City.The police will produce him in a court and try to get his police remand to recover the gun used in the murder. The police had earlier arrested Vinod Gora who had allegedly arranged for a pistol used by the main shooter, Ramdeva Ram for murdering Nair in the presence of his pregnant wife at the couple’s house in Karani Vihar area on May 17. The police have already arrested Nair’s parents-in-law at whose behest he was killed. The main shooter who had opened fire at Nair is still at large. Vinod and his aide Ramdeva had been hired by Geevanram Choudhary, Nair’s father-in-law. Vinod was standing in front of Nair’s house, while Ramdeva went inside with a pistol and opened fire at the victim. The police on May 24 arrested parents-in-law of Nair and their two aides. The parents-in-law visited Amit’s house in Karani Vihar’s Jagdamba Colony on May 17. Two men unknown to their daughter were also accompanying them. Jeewan Ram and his wife tried to forcefully take Mamta away, but when she resisted, one of the two unidentified men opened fire at Amit. He sustained three bullet injuries and died on way to hospital. Jeewan Ram and his family were against his daughter marriage with Nair because he was from a different caste. A total of seven people have been arrested in connection with the honor killing case.
