Alwar gang rape: Rahul Gandhi’s Thanagazi visit postponed
Jaipur: Congress national president Rahul Gandhi will visit Thanagazi town of Alwar district on Thursday to meet the family members of the gang rape victim. He was scheduled to arrive here on Wednesday, but his chopper was not given a green single for take-off due to bad weather conditions. His visit was postponed to Thursday.
Congress spokesperson Jayveer Shergil held a press conference and told media persons that the Air Traffic Control didn’t give permission for the take-off due to weather conditions in Delhi. The ATC didn’t allow the take-off for three hours and since Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to visit other places, he was unable to visit Thanagazi.
Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot and deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot are likely to accompany Rahul Gandhi when the Congress national president will meet the family members of the gang rape victim.
The case has taken a political turn with the BJP demanding resignation of chief minister Gehlot for the alleged attempt to hush up the matter.
The supporters of Rajya Sabha MP Kirori Lal Meena clashed with the police on Tuesday evening. The supporters were allegedly tried to block the railway tracks in Dausa and when the police tried to disperse them, they pelted stones. At least eight people were injured in the clashes.
The incident happened on April 26 when the victim was on her way home with her husband on thanagazi-Alwar bypass. Five youths on two bikes intercepted the husband’s bike and took them to a nearby isolated area. The youths were in their mid 20s.
They beat up the husband and then tied him up. The five men gang raped the woman while the husband witnessed the horrifying ordeal.
They made a video of the incident and shared it on social media where it went viral. The Rajasthan government has put SP Alwar Rajeev Pachar and suspended Thanagazi SHO Sardar Singh for the alleged negligence. All the five main accused men have been arrested.
