Alwar: Constable shoots self; family accuses senior police officer of harassment

Jaipur: A police constable identified as Manjeet Choudhary committed suicide by shooting himself with his service revolver in a village in Alwar district of Rajasthan. His family members alleged a senior police officer had threatened him following which he was under depression. However, the police have recovered a 30-second video in which Manjeet said “I want to live, but I can’t without you.” The police have launched an investigation.

Manjeet was posted in Malakheda police station in Alwar. He was found dead in a car near Tathada village. There were reports that two suicide notes were recovered; however, the cops were yet to confirm this. In one of the two suicide notes, he sought apology from his father for taking the extreme step while in the second suicide note, he stated that he was responsible for ending his life. No one else should be blamed.

In the video, Manjeet is reportedly seen crying. He had shared the video with someone on WhatsApp also.

Manjeet’s father Ramesh told media persons that a senior police officer was harassing his son.

“He was depressed due to this. We demand that an investigation be launched into this and a strict action is taken against the police officer. He should be booked inciting Manjeet to commit suicide,” said the father.

Senior police officers said that an investigation has been launched. The body was handed over to family members after a post-mortem examination.
